Black Bear Island Lodge

Meet the Owners

The two families behind the island — passionate about wilderness, hospitality, and creating unforgettable experiences for every guest.

Pius & Diana Besaw and Doug & Pam Capener

Two Families, One Island

Black Bear Island Lodge is owned and operated by two couples who share a deep love for the Canadian wilderness and a commitment to genuine northern hospitality. Together, they've built something rare — a place where guests feel like family from the moment they arrive.

Pius and Diana Besaw are on the island every season — on the dock, in the kitchen, and out on the water — making sure your experience is everything it should be. Doug and Pam Capener contribute from Texas and visit when they can, bringing decades of passion for the fishery and a deep investment in what makes BBIL truly special.
